1965 Chevrolet Malibu SS (Chevelle) | RESERVE AUCTION
History of the 1965 Malibu:
"Malibu is one of Chevrolet's most enduring nameplates, and one of a dwindling number of domestic cars still treading water in a sea of small, medium, and large SUVs. Its basic mission has always been the same: affordable, reliable, midsize transportation. Early on, Malibu was the up-level version of the Chevelle and, when ordered with Super Sport accoutrements, it was also Chevrolet's horse in the intermediate muscle car races......
In the Malibu's debut year, the Super Sport package was an understated affair. It included "SS" badges on the quarters and on the rear panel between the taillamps, as well as on the hubcaps. There were also shiny moldings on the beltline, the rockers, and wheelwells. Inside, SS cockpits were furnished with buckets, a console (with four-speed manual and Powerglide), and special instruments. Under the hood, sixes and small-block V-8s were available, and initially the 283 with a single four-barrel was the hottest offering. Later in the model year, the 327 was rolled out in 250- and 300-horsepower flavors. With the bigger engine, Chevrolet threw in new fender badges featuring flags waving from the sides of the 283's "V" emblem. The 409, already on its last roundup by '64, was never offered in the midsize Chevelle or Chevelle Malibu."--Hemmings
